My experience at the Informatics centre has been brilliant as I have learned a large array of new skills. During my time here, I have been assigned to a social media based project, in which I must improve the online outlook of Buckingham House Hotel. This has involved researching search engine optimization, social media websites and digital marketing strategies. I have also had to implement all of the aforementioned areas into action.
In order to achieve all of these goals, I've had to attend weekly meetings with my client, Terri Gray. These have been huge learning experiences for me because before coming to the Informatics Centre, I had never participated in meetings before. Therefore, actually talking in front of other people in a business environment has been a great experience that I will definitely hold onto to help me in my future.
Learning about social media analytics
My work placement at the Informatics Centre has allowed me to learn about social media management systems like Hootsuite- a type of website which allow users to monitor their social media accounts. Using this tool, it is possible to view a live stream of your Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages simultaneously, as well as searching through all your direct messages, private messages, etc. I've also learned many interesting facts about search engine optimization and how to successfully implement specific features into your website to improve the page rank of individual web pages in Google.

Overall, working at the Informatics Centre has been a very fun and educational experience for me. The staff, as well as the other students on placement here, have all been very friendly and helpful which has only made my time here even better.
